Nipple Repair

Inverted enlarged nipples are a surprisingly common problem in both women and men. An inverted nipple is a nipple that, instead of pointing outward, is retracted into the breast. In some cases, the nipple will be temporarily protruded if stimulated, but in others, the inversion remains regardless of stimulus. They can interfere with breast feeding and also be a source of persistent infection and emotional distress. A nipple repair procedure can correct this issue, providing you with permanent results.

Gold Coast plastic surgeon Dr Dilip is an experienced surgeon and can achieve for you the results you are looking for, to feel confident and happy in the skin you’re in

Procedure

WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE?

There are different nipple repair techniques for correction of inverted nipples that depend on the severity of the condition. Our Gold Coast plastic surgeon Dr Dilip Gahankari will assess your case during the initial consultation and will choose the correct nipple repair technique to suit your needs and the degree of inversion. Generally speaking, nipple surgery is performed as a day surgery under local anesthetic and you will be bale to return home after your operation. The procedure is minimally invasive and should not cause a large amount of discomfort or pain in comparison to other, more invasive procedures.

Recovery

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE ME TO RECOVER?

As Dr Dilip takes an individual approach to each nipple repair procedure, addressing the conditions unique to you, recovery times are variable and change for each patient. Dr Dilip will discuss your surgical options and recovery times at your initial consultation. The recovery time after a nipple repair procedure is quite quick, with patients often returning to work the same or next day. There will be stitches and dressings applied after surgery, however they will be removed within four to seven days.

WHAT RESULTS CAN I EXPECT?

Inverted nipples can be corrected to protrude normally, and if your case is less severe, correction may be achievable without the division of milk ducts thereby reducing the chance of interference with breast feeding. However, in more severe cases, division of the milk ducts may be the only way of correcting the problem. Dr Gahankari will discuss this in detail with you prior to surgery.

Pain, swelling and bruising are very limited after the surgery, meaning that the final result of the surgery will be evident instantaneously. This procedure requires limited recovery time and is minimally invasive. Thus, if you’re displeased with your nipples, there is no need to endure them for any longer.
