Some women who have received breast implants develop a problem or are unhappy with the implants due to a change in their body shape or circumstances. Breast implant revision surgery is often undertaken by women who are not satisfied with the size, shape, look or feel of their existing implants.
This is common in women who have not had a thorough consultation process before their initial surgery or seen an inexperienced surgeon. This issue is often seen with ‘surgical holidays’ where the pre-consultation process is limited and after care is lacking. Alternately, you may have developed capsular contracture, have gained or lost excessive weight, ruptured an implant or experienced a number of other complications. Additionally, all breast implants have a limited lifespan and need to be replaced after 15 to 20 years.

WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE?
In your initial consultation with Dr Dilip Gahankari the issues you have with your current implants will be discussed and a procedure will be chosen to alleviate these concerns. The breast implant revision procedure involves removing the original implants and in most case replacing them with new, more suitable ones. There may also be some skin correction involved in the breast implant revision surgery, depending on the circumstances. In some cases, the decision is made not to insert another implant. The breast implant revision surgery is undertaken under general anesthetic as a day surgery. You will need to arrange a trusted friend or family member to collect you from the hospital, as you will not be able to drive after your surgery.
WHAT RESULTS CAN I EXPECT?
Due to the nature of the breast implant revision surgery, each individual’s result will be unique. As with all Dr Dilip Gahankari’s surgical outcomes, you can expect the most natural and desired results possible. Breast implant revision surgery has the ability to correct both physical and psychological issue that arise in individual’s who are dissatisfied with their initial breast implant procedures. You will experience swelling and bruising, similar to your initial breast enlargement surgery. While there will be an immediate change in the look and feel of your breasts after surgery, the final result may take a couple of months to develop.
WHAT IS THE EXPECTED RECOVERY TIME?
The breast implant revision procedure is more complicated than the original breast augmentation procedure and you may experience swelling and bruising for some weeks as well as over or under sensitive skin. Your pain will be managed after your surgery by medication prescribed by Dr Dilip. You should be able to resume normal, light activities within two days of the breast implant revision surgery. It is recommended that you refrain from exercise and driving for at least two weeks and leave at least six weeks to recover before you partake in any strenuous exercise or activities.
