Breast Enlargement

Many women feel their natural breast size is too small, their breasts have lost volume after pregnancy and breastfeeding, or possibly have an imbalance in size between their breasts. While specialist bras can go some way to addressing this, dissatisfaction with breast size can cause emotional stress and impact on a woman’s life. Breast augmentation surgery, also known as a breast enlargement, boob job or breast implant surgery offers a permanent solution by inserting an implant behind each breast, increasing the size and enhancing the look and feel of the breast.

Experienced Gold Coast plastic surgeon Dr Dilip has been performing breast enlargements and many other plastic surgery procedures on the Gold Coast for over 21 years. He has the knowledge and experience to cater the procedure to your individual circumstances to achieve the size, shape, look and feel that you desire.

Simply put, a breast enlargement or breast augmentation is a cosmetic procedure that involves placing a permanent implant inside the body to enlarge the size and shape of the breast. Your initial consultation with Dr Dilip Gahankari at his Gold Coast clinic will decide details such as the appropriate specification of your breast augmentation surgery and give you a detailed outline of your expected recovery.

Procedure

Is this procedure for me?

There are multiple factors that come into play in regards to the breast enlargement procedure. The size and type (silicone gel or saline) of the implant is one of the main decisions made by the patient and depends on their personal preferences and the look in which they are going for. Furthermore, the type of implant surface (smooth or textured) and the shape (tear drop or round) also needs to be decided upon. Once again, both of these options are dependent on the individual needs and desires of each patient. The surgical option (under or over the muscle) will also need to be chosen and depends on the individual’s personal preferences and a range of other factors. Finally, the incision point needs to be decided upon and can be through the armpit (transaxillary incision), via the nipple (periareolar incision) or at the breast fold (inframammary incision). Each option given above renders a different result and can be discussed with Dr Dilip in your initial free consultation.

In most cases the actual breast augmentation procedure will take place on the Gold Coast as day surgery under general anesthetic. You will be released from hospital the day of your surgery and you will need to be picked up by a friend or family member. All of the above details will be discussed and explained further in your initial free consultation with Dr Dilip on the Gold Coast.

Recovery

Pre and post op care

Recovery time for breast augmentation surgery is usually quite quick, but is dependent on each individual’s personal factors. You will experience mild pain and discomfort within the first couple of days after your surgery, however Dr Dilip will manage your pain with medication. You should be able to return to work within 2-7 days under usual circumstances after a breast augmentation procedure.

While everyone’s recovery is different it is recommended to refrain from driving for two weeks after the breast augmentation surgery. Swelling, bruising and tenderness will be present for a couple of weeks after your surgery and in some cases last up to a couple of months post op. Light physical activity can be resumed after two weeks, however it is advised that rigorous physical activity be avoided for six weeks after the breast augmentation surgery.

Results

What results can I expect?

After the breast augmentation surgery you will have fuller, firmer breasts to complement your natural body curvature. You may experience swelling and bruising for some weeks as well as over or under sensitive skin. While you will notice a change immediately in the appearance of your breasts, it can take up to six months for your breasts to develop, drop and ‘fluff’ into their final position and shape. You should be able to resume normal, light activities within two days, depending on your individual circumstances.
