Breast Correction (tuberous breasts)

Tuberous breasts are a very different problem to dissatisfaction in breast size. Obvious at puberty, tuberous breast deformity features include underdeveloped breast size, incorrect positioning of the fold beneath the breast, breasts spaced too widely apart, bulging of the nipple-areolar area, and unsymmetrical breasts. Women and men with tuberous breasts can display some or all of these features. Like any physical abnormality, the affects can be extreme, impacting on a person’s self-esteem and personal relationship. Gold Coast plastic surgeon Dr Dilip offers a breast correction procedure, which has the ability to correct this problem.

Procedure

WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE?

With so many variables, no two tuberous breasts are the same, so Dr Dilip Gahankari takes an individual approach to each breast correction procedure, addressing the conditions unique to you. In general, breast correction surgery is very similar to breast augmentation, however tuberous breasts require breast reshaping, areolar balancing, and breast augmentation. Furthermore, breast reconstruction surgery is performed with an incision through either the nipple, or in the fold of the breast. In most cases, an implant will be used to correct the tuberous breast. Similar to breast enlargement, there are many different options for the placement, shape and size of implant used. All of these options will be will be discussed with Dr Dilip in your initial free consultation.

Recovery

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE ME TO RECOVER?

As Dr Gahankari takes an individual approach to each breast correction procedure, addressing the conditions unique to you, recovery times are variable and change for each patient. Generally speaking, breast correction surgery is performed as a day surgery and you will remain in hospital for a couple of hours after the procedure. The first couple of days after your surgery you may experience some pain, however Dr Dilip will manage your pain with medication during your recovery. Bruising, swelling and some discomfort is expected and should last around two to three weeks, depending on your individual circumstances.

It is advised to take it easy for the first couple of weeks after your breast reconstruction procedure, to ensure the best possible results. Light activity can be undertaken after around two weeks and you should be back to full capacity around the six week mark, unless advised otherwise by Dr Dilip. Your individual surgical options and recovery times will be discussed at your initial consultation for your breast correction surgery.

Results

WHAT RESULTS CAN I EXPECT?

The breast correction surgery will result in symmetrical, fuller and shapelier breasts. A reduction in the ‘puffiness’ of the nipple will also be evident after the surgery. Each surgery will be different, but in general, you may experience swelling and bruising for some weeks as well as over or under sensitive skin. The final result of your breast reconstructive procedure may take a couple of months to develop and become evident, however you should see a noticeable difference straight after your surgery.
